Goolarri Media

Goolarri Media Enterprises is one of the four organisations in Country Arts WA’s Regional Arts Hubs pilot program.

The intent of the program is to increase creative self-sufficiency and autonomy for regional and remote communities and artists. The program will benefit the regional arts sector by revitalising and strengthening local capacity, economy, and community.

Goolarri Media Enterprises (GME) is a fully-owned subsidiary of the Broome Aboriginal Media Association (BAMA). BAMA was launched in 1991 after 10 years of community discussion concerning the need for an Indigenous media service for the rapidly growing town of Broome.

Goolarri Media Enterprises:

  • Assists the development of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communications in the Kimberley region;
  • Supports the enhancement of Indigenous musicians throughout Western Australia;
  • Creates and produces valuable event activities for the entire community;
  • Aims to create stronger social cohesion across the diverse peoples of the Kimberley;
  • Delivers nationally accredited training in media and events management, leveraging its RTO status.

Through dedication, passion and a vision for the future GME has grown its capacity to become one of Australia’s most successful and diverse Indigenous media and communications organisations, ensuring it remains at the forefront of digitising culture and community. Over the past 22 years, GME has transitioned from a traditional media service to a broader training and capacity building organisation with a vision to close the gap for all Indigenous peoples across the Kimberley region.

The geographical scope of GME responsibility as a Regional Arts Hub is:

  • Shire of Broome
  • Shire of Derby-West Kimberley

The Regional Arts Hubs will strengthen the State and arts sector by building creativity, capacity, and connection in and between regional communities. The program is an initiative of Country Arts WA.

The project is made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which supports sustainable cultural development in regional and remote Australia to give artists and communities better access to opportunities to practice and experience the arts.
